At wellbeinghypnotherapy we can help you to overcome sleeping difficulties by tackling the issues that may be causing your sleeping problems. These may be emotional problems, difficulties at work, anxiety, depression and thinking over and over about problems usually without getting anywhere with them.
1 in 4 adults experiences sleep problems and left untreated this can increase the risk of developing medical problems.
Hypnosis and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy can help you change unhelpful ways of thinking. Negative thinking especially the fear of the effects of not sleeping causes problems. This makes it difficult to sleep and causes the experience of trying to sleep feel miserable. For example thoughts such as "Tomorrow will be terrible if I don't get enough sleep tonight" are likely to make it very hard to relax and then fall asleep.
You can overcome the conditioning that occurs with repeated and unsuccessful attempts to sleep. When sleep is disrupted for any prolonged period of time negative associations can develop between pre-sleep rituals or the bed environment and the psychological process of trying to fall asleep.
Please note that other psychological, medical or sleep disorders may be present that will affect sleep.
Psychological problems may include depression, anxiety disorders, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and abuse of substances.
Medical problems that can affect sleep include thyroid disorders, chronic pain and diabetes. In women sleep disturbances may occur during menopause. Certain medications may also interfer with sleep. Other sleep disorders may include sleep anopea and restless leg syndrome. If these are suspected you should consult your doctor.
Even if these are affecting your sleep hypnotherapy and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy can be very helpful.
