Actual Gastric Band Surgery is when a plastic band is placed around the top of your stomach, which vastly reduces the amount of food it can hold before you feel full. It leaves the patient with a pouch about the size of a golf ball. There is an aperture in the band (which is adjustable) to allow food through to the rest of your stomach and digestive system. Like every other surgery there are many risks to the procedure, including infection. As the patients are obese, the risk of heart problems and other complications are higher as well.
