What happens when you see a hypnotherapist? My experience of seeing a hypnotherapist and Mindful Therapist By a 15 year old client

Published on 12th September 2019

I went to Adrian Sonnex last year due to struggles with school pressures, exam anxiety and family dilemmas, I felt that talking about my issues would only make things worse, however I made several improvements around my school problems such as revising, focusing, preparation, judgement, peer pressure and social anxiety.

My first couple of sessions my mum came with me and supported me throughout. I struggled to open up and talk about personal issues I was dealing with. Over time, I learnt to trust Adrian in talking with him and doing hypnotherapy and Mindfulness.

My experience of hypnotherapy has been very helpful. To begin with, I was very nervous because I didn’t know what my body and mind would feel like during the hypnosis. Adrian told me what to expect which made me feel more relaxed and calm. The first time I had hypnosis, I closed my eyes, took in some deep breathes and followed suggestions about relaxation. I remained awake and aware throughout the hypnosis, but felt light, relaxed and calm. Adrian gave me suggestions about feeling happier, positive, able to focus/concentrate better and be more relaxed at school and in social situations. I really enjoyed having hypnotherapy and would recommend it especially when dealing with anxiety, and any other problems.

This is what K a 15 year old client wrote about her hypnotherapy and mindfulness sessions with me. She chose to write this blog-post to encourage other teenagers to get the help and support they need. I work with many teenagers around issues of exam-school anxiety, peer pressure, body image, self-confidence, self-esteem, self-harm and other destructive behaviors such as alcohol and drugs.
